It started innocently enough—what I thought were just old socks slipping down and bunching under my toes. Classic IFIO girl move: I bought new socks. Then more socks. And when the painful bunching sensation continued, I kept researching until I figured it out myself: Morton’s Neuroma.
What is Morton’s Neuroma?
Morton’s Neuroma is a thickening of tissue around the nerves leading to your toes, typically between the third and fourth toes. Common symptoms include:
- Sharp, burning pain in the ball of your foot
- Sensation of standing on a pebble or bunched sock
- Tingling or numbness in your toes
- Pain that worsens with activity or tight shoes
- Feeling like something is inside the ball of your foot
My IFIO Journey
Armed with my self-diagnosis, I dove in. New shoes. Different insoles. More research. More purchases. But the relief I desperately needed? It never came.
Then one day, I drove past The Foot Spot in Leawood, Kansas.

Inside, I was properly measured and fitted for HOKA shoes specifically designed for Morton’s Neuroma sufferers.

The Real IFIO Lesson
Sometimes figuring it out means knowing when to ask questions. When to seek expert advice. When to work with others who have the knowledge and experience you need.
I’m still an IFIO girl. I just realized that “figuring it out” can mean figuring out who to ask and where to go for help.
IFIO girl—now with the right shoes and a little less pain.
